Investigate ACORN or we will release more tapes
A lot of bells and whistles went off and then every one went back to doing business as usual. The players realized they had a friend in Justice who wasn't going to do jack squat. Well so did Andrew Breitbart.
Did anyone see the tapes below before?
It is a shame you have to threaten your government to do their assigned jobs. Am I Shocked? No. This will rank among one of the most corrupt administrations ever. Transparently corrupt .

Until we're ready to march on Washington, nothing will change. Proposed motto: "Next time with guns!"
Ditto that.
Yes. The corruption is pretty transparent... one might say, "blatant".
How does one corrupt entity investigate another? Geez.
I haven't heard of any of this new stuff. These kids just amaze me, they're awesome. It's sickening what is going on and the how the MSM is IGNORING it! I'm glad they have more.
ACORN is so corrupt it isn't even funny.
And no, I hadn't seen any of the new videos.
What do you do when people are so corrupt that they see nothing wrong here other than the story getting out.
I guess you just make sure the story gets out right around election time
ACORN if I understand correctly is a nonprofit that even if these tapes are accurate (and I have no reason to believe they are not) is a group that tries to help poor people and people below the poverty line get services they would not have known they previously had access to. After a previous scandal it is also my understanding they had their Federal funding stripped. So what the hell is the controversy here and what needs to be investigated? They are a nonprofit that now has no access to government funds. So tell me why should the government be wasting taxpayer dollars to investigate this? I know ACORN is a bogeyman for the right...just as let's say Katherine Harris was for the far left...but you are giving this group WAY too much assumed power. I read on redstate they believed ACORN stole the general election. By what? getting poor people to vote their interests? You can't be serious that makes no sense...
our revolution was fought to end the tyranny and "unfair" taxation. but when we gained our freedom from tyranny we suppressed revolt that resulted in constituional convention and george washington raised an army to suppress the whiskey rebellion in pa. will american people really have the guts to rise up to our government who is corrupt and is willing to imprison us?
@Leonidas - they hide behind the veil of non-profit. that designation of non-profit is not a teflon against criticism.
@supsoo - Again, unless I am mistaken they are not getting federal funding. So why should Congress be looking into this? If these tapes show crimes why isn't local authorities being called over this?...
@Leonidas - why is rep. rangle not indicted for tax fraud? why is planned parenthood funded? why why why? you might not think that acorn is not being funded by our tax money but i assure you those sneaky politicians have found a circuitious method of funding their favorite non-profit.actually i think i posted a video about that.
Laws that apply to ACORN certainly should apply equally to other organizations as well. Thus, we certainly should defund many of our defense contractors, who have defrauded the U.S. government of much more money and broken many more laws than ACORN.
@supsoo - I believe Charlie Rangel should be in jail and expelled from Congress I agree. So should John Ensign for breaking ethics rules and bribing the same man he cuckolded with lobbying contracts. There are several representatives who should be tossed out for criminal behavior. Planned Parenthood (grant you I've never been in one) does provide women with information and does provide health services. ACORN never was on anyone's radar until Obama's election. I read the loser of the race in upstate NY blamed ACORN for stealing his election too. His loss had nothing to do with the fact he didn't even live in the district he wanted to represent, couldn't answer questions about any local issues and had never met local officials. His loss had nothing to do with the fact he was a tool and uninformed jackass. ACORN must be a very powerful invisible electoral machine if they could make the Republican party lose a seat they held for 150 years straight. I seriously never heard of them before the recent election. Please link that video...
@Leonidas -The funding was only temporarily stripped. This is a agency that receives federal dollars has had several charges nationwide of voter fraud and deceptive lending practices. This is part of the inner working with assisting people to get funding through the Community Reinvestment Act primarily funded through fannie and freddie.
Actually I am very surprised that you would not want a investigation and prosecution for fraud, aiding and abetting fraud and violation of federal elections laws and voting roll manipulation Steve. I wouldn't think that just because this is a atypical democrat organization that you would not want them rooted out as dirty so that the funds would be used for their intended purpose. The multitiered organizational working could potential fall under RICO .
I happen to believe in community organizing and getting people out and being active, all people. It's not just for poor people or rich people but for everyone. I think we have quite a few governmental agencies and banks that already deal with that type of thing. Like why would we need ACORN in PA? We have COMPASS that encompasses all service eligibilities in one form that takes fifteen minutes to fill out online. We register you to vote when you get your license. We have mortgage brokers that make a commission off getting you a loan. I think every candidate has their own responsibility to get their own message out as well as their parties message out. They dont need a federally funded group to do it on our dime. And if they do, you wouldn't want them prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law if they commited a crime and were aiding and abetting criminal activity?
I am not big on entrapment , but if the entrapment exposes activity and ends that activity I am not out for blood. But we have members of congress that want acorn back fully funded. That is not needed in this time of fiscal crisis. LKet them fund their own political organizations. We can agree to disagree there. Thanks for your input.
@trunthepaige - I would like to see Breitbart and Holder be able to work with each other and share information, but I dont see it happening. I am for community organizing, I am doing it now...without funding.
@Leonidas -(note) I see where after I started replying to you that you did call out specific fraud that you found intolerable. while we may see things different I have always found you to be fair in holding people to account.
Like I said, I am all for community organizing ,aiding people and making sure people make their voices heard. But if someone is being corrupt and misusing funds from the public in doing so I want them prosecuted. I think it is important enough that we are doing it on own own dime as volunteer work.
@ProvokingThought - John I think they are a nonprofit. I don't think they are an agency. If they were part of the Federal Government that would be one thing but I think their funding was allocated based on the work they did. If there are genuine concerns then their funding can be stripped. But I know many people of the Republican persuasion who were awfully silent when church members were commanding their members to vote for a Republican ticket. The Religious right was recognized by everyone as the voting force that put President Bush in office. But the churches also do wonderful things and help communities....should I revoke all their tax exemptions and start investigating churches?
The funny thing is I know many church members who work in inner cities...they depend and lean on groups like ACORN to help walk them through the maze of paperwork governments specialize in. So these videos are fine and dandy but I can't believe they represent all of ACORN. And if their funding is stripped then there is no issue is there?
As for voter frraud take a look at Karl Rove and the firing of the federal DAs...qualified professionals who were fired for what? Not investigating enough democrats. I could point out examples of this all night which I don't have time for. But if you want me to support investigating ACORN...then add Karl Rove to that list as well as churches and even church pastors who threatened their parishoners with going to hell if they didn't vote Republican. Could this country be any more screwed up?...
@ProvokingThought - To be honest I was never likely to be one of Holder's fans but this seems cut and dry ACORN is corrupt and they have been spending federal money. @redhairedgrrl - The last I head they are prosecuted when they are caught. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/15/defense-contractor-will-p_n_322740.html
That was the first one I found with little effort. that fine was just for over charging
Here 3 years in jail for stealing fuel
And here is one with a 20 sentence over her head. They are using her to help bust more people involved.
I would love it if they treated to the two crimes the same. I was shocked at how many go to jail and or pay big fines over defrauding the defence department
@soccerdadforlife - @nudged - a career politician yesterday was telling me that many politicians really dont know how to read what is going on with the ground swell of public involvement. He said frankly they were used to seeing dial a mob and then the press report on the protestors who were truly astroturf. What has happened they misread what they have seen and that misinterpretation could have consequences.
He said the amount of sunlight coming into the legislative process has them pissed and they think that it is going to go back to the way it was with cronyism and acorn type groups and people have said enough. If you track public opinion polls on congressional ratings they have taken a dive for years. They put up with it when the times were good, but now that bad times have set in..the party is over for political parties. These people are serious and are not going away.
.
@Leonidas - well I would start at your last point and answer no (hopefully), but not really believe it. I think we both know it can get worse.
I dont know if you were around at the time last year I shared about leaving a church for exactly that. (the final straw). I take a different position on church state issues. The church is a non-taxable entity. It is not part of the state and the state has no control of the church. Hit the brakes though.
The church then files to be a non-profit corporation which means it becomes a state created entity by its own action. It then applies for a 501 c 3 exemption. So it goes from being non-taxable to placing itself in a position that the exemption is conditional.. Why do they become 501 c 3? So people can write off their gifts. Why were churches granted tax exemption on property? Because they were considered asset to the community in the assistance they gave.

Oh, what was that about the DA's Steve? Come on, you know they serve at the pleasure of the president. The examples of many of the churches you cited in inner city arenas are many times also political churches who do not see the role of the church as the minister of mercy and the role of the state as the minister of justice.
There are political democratic churches in cities as well. Also remember the controversey in the Catholic church over the social gospel? I dont believe in the church being political but that does not change that many are. My view is that the church should hold itself to a higher standard and abide by any agreement it has made to operate under in exchange for their tax exemption.
@supsoo - I had family on both sides of the whiskey rebellion.
@dropsofjupiterihh - either had I. I havent been following any of it, just needed a break from healthcare for a bit. Hope school is well. John
@saturnnights - your question in summation is the reality of why it may be a waste of time.
@firetyger - Hi. Hope things are ok with that situation.
Again, I am not going to feign shock, other than how blatant it is.
Plus I knew it would be something that was a tad controversial
I hear ya.
It's going ok. I was just doing some homework. I really like this school better than the community college. I miss the bigger setting but I like the classes and teachers better here (from the two that I've had). The school as a whole is very attentive to your needs and concerns. It just seems more like they want you to succeed whereas in community college you were just one in a large number of students, they could care less or so it seemed. Everytime I get tired or overwhelmed I think about the loan I signed away my life for. lol Out of all the classes that I took at community college only one teacher made an impression on me. He's the only one I can remember. He was a design teacher.
@Leonidas - To my knowledge ACORN's funding ban was temporary and was to be reinstated on Oct. 31.
And to have funding cut off to ACORN when they have hundreds of subsidiaries is like cutting the leg off of a centipede, even the founder couldn't say how many subsidiaries ACORN had in a recent interview. The tapes show an agency willing to abet human trafficking. Whistle blowers from within ACORN have reported everything from voter fraud to embezzlement to misuse of taxpayer funds. A corrupt ACORN not only received millions (if not billions) of taxpayer dollars but is so tied to govt. that they nearly had a lock on future power and corruption by being hired to do the census (consider the money and decisions that are made based on the census) and it is not hard to see that their reach goes well beyond helping poor people.
