Consistently Inconsistent
Would it be expecting too much for the Commander-in-Chief to display a level of consistent behavior? Consistently Inconsistent is not an attribute that is acceptable for the Commander in Chief, yet it accurately describes Barack Obama recent actions.
On Friday the President said the entire nation is grieving for those slain at Fort Hood, and he urged people not to jump to conclusions while law enforcement officers investigate the shootings. (Well I will give him this much, at least he learned a lesson from the Cambridge incident.)
Then on Saturday during his weekly address the President gave the defense attorney major fodder by pronouncing "This past Thursday, on a clear Texas afternoon, an Army psychiatrist walked into the Soldier Readiness Processing Center, and began shooting his fellow soldiers." Excuse me? The President is a attorney at law. He knows better than to say this and the ramifications of potentially tainting a jury pool. What is he trying to do....beside jumping to a conclusion?"Well, look, we -- we have seen, in the past, rampages of this sort. And in a country of 300 million people, there are going to be acts of violence that are inexplicable. Even within the extraordinary military that we have -- and I think everybody understands how outstanding the young men and women in uniform are under the most severe stress -- there are going to be instances in which an individual cracks. I think the questions that we're asking now and we don't have yet complete answers to is, is this an individual who's acting in this way or is it some larger set of actors? You know, what are the motivations? Those are all questions that I think we have to ask ourselves. Until we have these answers buttoned down, I'd rather not comment on it."
If I am Hasan's defense lawyer I am smiling ear to ear. Here is the Commander in Chief, Hasan's boss, openly commenting on his case and tainting the jury pool. Then potentially providing a alternative defense for him? As a lawyer and law professor there is no excuse for the President to be acting as foolishly as he is in a murder case on a military base.
President Obama needs to get a grip on his lip and realize that his actions are undermining the morale of the Armed Forces who look to their Commander to bring Justice and provide stability, not to play pundit on the subject of a murder on a military installation.. This is the ultimate disrespect to the victims of the shootings at Ft. Hood.
One can only wonder what he does for a encore! Offer to be the JAG ? Cede to the United Nations and try him under Sharia Law? Tune in to the next episode of Barack Obama, Commander in Chief.

Fortunately that jackass is being tried in a military court. If he gets anything other than a firing squad or a hanging it's a shame and a miscarriage of justice. He deserves to be executed for betraying his oath to his country and for betraying the trust of his fellow service members. Although I think his faith served as a motivator I'd advocate the same penalty for him as for any other man who did what he did.
@JJ_Ames - Hopefully Barack doesnt try to get it changed to civilian courts so he can get a fair trial. fyi---You caught me in a edit )
Military Code of Justice is different than consitutional or codal law.
Of course, as CINC, Obama's comments are arguably WORSE on courts martial than their impact upon civilian judicial proceedings would be.
There is a detachment about the President that is chilling. If this would have been a Christian they would have used it as an excuse to discredit us. Sad.
Brilliant analysis!!!
@clintspirations - Thanks Chet!
@mcbery - I can not offer a clinical diagnosis, but I would certainly say he seems to be obsessed with himself and that he believes people are just looking to him to interpet every event and handle every crisis for them. And I really think he believes that.
@SwordAndSacrifice - hopefully it stays UCMJ and Obama detaches himself from his interpretation of the event as shrink in chief.
Commander in Chief... a lofty title for such an inept person. How sad that this was the best that citizens of this country decided to give to our military. He is no more a CIC than I am.
I really don't have any confidence in the man. Everyone should know that you don't comment on an open case, its only a recurring theme on most every cop and/or lawyer show ever made. But my guess would be that he is still playing "campaign" and doesn't realize that he is not a private citizen anymore and that he has a much more important job than making sure that he has great media exposure and always trying to tell people what the want to hear.
@spititoutalready - that is a understatement
@mrcolorful - I was actually alluding to was he trying to give this guy defense tools? I realize the UCMJ is different than civilian law yet when POTUS is your chief apologist it gives me pause. It undermines the moral of the troops. I know in speaking to friends of ours, they are glad they took their out and retired now instead of staying in for 30.
@SwordAndSacrifice - HEY!! you're back
Welcome home
@ProvokingThought - Who knows maybe Obama will actually get himself installed as the guy's defense attorney or as the judge in the proceedings. It sounds completely absurd but I wouldn't put it past him.
Sometimes I wonder if he doesn't view the military in the same way that he views the rest of the Government, a self-sustaining entity of superhuman minions on which no action he could take will have any effect, either positive or negative, on its incessant rise to higher levels of greatness. Obviously, this idea of government and military existing on a higher plane and being the ultimate authority in anything is completely at odds with the founding fathers, Constitution and us.
You raise a really good point about this. I'm going to keep an eye on the trial and see if they try and use this and weasel some form of defense from it. I hope somebody offs the guy before it goes to trial though. Buy me a beer and I'll do it.
i wonder how bush would have done in this situation. it seems to me he always handled these type of things MUCH better. you are far more eloquent than i though, so i will leave it to you if you would be willing to do the comparison as an entry.
i thought the guy was dead,,, well,, it went back and forth for a while,, and if a dr looking at him cant tell if hes dead or alive,,, yea,, we need to improve our health care...
assuming he is still alive and fit to stand trial... it would all make sense... you think ears would want him found guilty??? hahahahahahahaha,,, i have my doubts,,, this is what i would call "government provided insurance"
Obama is a lawyer...he should know better than to make remarks like that when the case is open. I also find it disturbing that the Commander-in-Chief is so dismissive of a man who from what little we know thus far, is pretty clearly an Islamic terrorist. Not only that but a traitor to his country. Yet here we have Obama undermining the morale of our soldiers anyway... It really makes me angry.
@ionekoa - It would be my guess that Bush would have spoken about the victims and the families , justice and the war on terror. It disturbs me we had information and dismissed it.

@dikdoktor -Steve, maybe they should just let him out in Fort Hood unarmed and go for dinner.
@mejicojohn - dead man walking John
@firetyger - he has no excuse Heidi. Is Aaron still in reserves?
@ProvokingThought - He's technically "active" (sort of) National Guard. Goes in once a month to drill.
Obama does too many dumb things that a President should not do
Although I've lost all hope for this country, assuming that things progress the way they should, Hasan should be found guilty of murder and since it's during a time of war, he should be executed by firing squad.
Of course, although Obama and his traitor minions in Congress simply cannot stomach the thought of admitting it, this was nothing less than a terrorist attack, carried out by a not-so-deep cover mole, who infiltrated the Army in front of God, Allah and everyone else.
Due to a long line of traitors who are soft on national defense stretching back years..this was allowed to happen. And today, the State Run Media, running cover for the terrorist in the White House, is doing everything they can to "BLAME THE VICTIMS"... whether it be those individuals, the Army, or the country as a whole.. but NEVER the politicians responsible.
@ProvokingThought - We got to watch Saddam swing on TV. This guy deserves the same as far as I'm concerned.
The man is an idiot.
@thereluctantsinger - Could not have said it better myself!
The "uh" count for this 1 minute 9 second video is 13!!
This is such a good post!
