Can you spot the real thing?
I am one of those odd balls who quit watching cable news and listening to talk radio when I realized how programmed people on both sides of the aisle have become. In fact, that is why I took to blogging, to go past the talking points and try to get inside peoples head and rattle some grey matter.
When I look back upon my changing routines and breaking the habit of turning to FOX and CNN or listening to talkers, it was actually very liberating. Why? I had to go back and rely on my own ability to think critically. I think that once you are able to do that, the scales come off the eyes of what is just merely a shadow and type of conservative thought. We had conservatives supporting big government solutions and expanding government that they would soundly reject if it was proposed by a Democrat. It reminded me of what Ronald Reagan said when he spoke about socialism, the country would outright reject socialism yet would accept each and every aspect of it packaged as liberalism.
In fact, in many ways that is exactly what has happened! But before you get on the bandwagon to rail liberals and curse FDR, Johnson, Carter and the current TOTUS that comes with a POTUS, remember people in glass houses should not throw stones. Richard Nixon super sized the Great Society, expanded government, took us off the gold standard, had wage and price control and was a corporate socialist (can you say Lockheed Martin?). Mises.org has a great article on Nixonian socialism.
George W. Bush was anything but a conservative. Karl Rove out-democrated the democrats in some of GW's policies. And I believe if you ask most pro-life people who followed his second term they can tell you he was no friend of the social conservative movement either; trading off the morning after pill for a Surgeon General. Where were conservatives in 2007 when he sent Chertoff and Snow out on a blitz to throw up their hands and say there is nothing we can do to stop illegal immigration? These are just a few points where as a conservative I can not support this at all. Yet my friends who listen to talk and FOX would tell me where I was wrong and again argue strong support for the two party system.
I also have a issue with "Chicken Little-ism" and "crying wolf" when the wolf may in fact be sleeping in our own henhouse. I swear a lot of conservative guys of tv are acting like a bunch of wimps. If you see a problem, sure identify it. But how about once you identify it that you start bringing solutions? How about start seeing if the perceived problem is the core or just a symptom? I challenge myself to be one to not only identify problems, but to start providing suggestions to solutions as well. When we see legislation that empowers community organizers do we say, Oh no ACORN, run for the hills? Or do we form our own conservative community organizations. To me, that is the natural extension of the tea party. Protest, identify and organize in your community and begin to be conservative community organizers. Being against something is short lived and falls apart. We have to be for something and start acting on taking part in our own government. We created the vacuum; it is our turn to fill it.

I will leave you with a example where people saw a problem with media and instead of just crying BIAS have done something about it. Liz Stephans and Scott Baker started broadcasting the b-cast out of a studio in Pittsburgh, PA and broadcast live from 4-6 PM EST M-F. Their programs are also archived. Scott is a former news anchor and those of you following the ACORN scandal should recognize the name Breitbart. These are people who are a positive example of what you do once you identify a problem and people refuse to alter their behavior.

I get SOOOOOO fed up with hearing "conservatives" (neoconservatives) cry about how bad the demcorats are for doing EXACTLY THE SAME THING that their precious Bush did for the last eight years. I get even MOREEEEEEEEEE fed up with said "conservatives" whining about the EXACT SAME THINGS that they MADE FUN OF Ron Paul and others for pointing out DURING the last eight years. Grrr...
We'll when it comes to conservatism I don't really need to spot the same thing, as I am entirely on the other side of the fence.
I really think a lot of this goes back to our educational system. If the schools I attended are any indication of the rest of the country then not only are students actively discouraged and sometimes punished for individual thought but they are indoctrinated into the belief that our news organizations are unbiased and provide all information all the time because the days of "yellow journalism" and propaganda are in the past and then they encourage emotional appeals and responses as the height of thinking, argumentation and truth.
It usually appeals to emotions directly to want to help people who are struggling. If someone believes that emotions and the ultimate proof of correctness and appropriateness then there is no way in which anyone can argue against them to get them to change their mind until you change that belief. Thus, when someone proposes giving money to people who aren't working so they can continue to survive it is automatic that anyone who disagrees with that program is mean-spirited, doesn't care and maybe even is evil because on first glance they are depriving someone of the means to survive.
That is where the similarity between the parties comes into play. At this point they generally agree about what is right and wrong because emotional responses are generally pretty similar across any group of people. The difference is in how they approach more ambiguous issues like abortion and how they choose to approach that emotional cauldron.
as i've grown i've moved from party line to non-partisan constitutionalist. the change has been slow except for the last year when I really had to start digging for the elections. It's too late now but I still want to read Buchanan's "Day of Reckoning" because it exposes some things about the Bush administration that I simply was unaware of. I've never blindly supported any politician but I did vote for Bush over the alternatives because they were no improvement. In retrospect, we should have voted Kerry in if not for any other reason than it would have given us a more favorable platform in 2008. i listen to very little talk radio, don't watch any tv and am more interested in print and digital media when it comes to forming opinions. in any case conservatives need to do some soul searching and come to a consensus of what we stand for and then refuse to compromise.
i wonder if anyone watched the video except me..
it dont appear they have....
its kinda slow in spots,,, and at the part you pointed out i was wondering if this wasnt some sort of religious video...
i have nothing against religion,,, until someone attempts to dictate my life according to their religious beliefs disregarding the fact i may have my own beliefs....
anyway,, thats not what i got out of the video... because i did in fact watch the rest of it... not to see the dominos fall,, hahahahaha,,, ive seen dominos fall on video more than once...
just watched it to watch it,,, i even watched the one i have linked on my current post,,, (i think current,,) twice... and i believe that sucker is over 2 hrs long.... (i do have a time warning under the link for those expecting a 5 minute video)
anyway,, back to your video... and spotting the real thing... and ears of course didnt initiate the real thing,,,, if were talking about walls... and the video is....
ours of course is not completed,, and it probably is still under discussion.
a wall,,, i would think would be similar to a lock... and we all know what locks are good for... for those who may see this and dont know,,, ill explain,,, locks are to keep honest people honest.
a wall,,, not unlike a fence,,, and a fence we know is not to keep the coyotes out of the field,,, its to keep the sheep in.
it was interesting to see the peoples reaction at various points in the video,, (the translations were a little hard to read (see) but they were interesting too)
talking about the wall of course did not cause me to think of berlin at all,,, another wall kept running thru my mind...
and of course i think i know the real reason for it....but then i think i know all,,, hahahahaha
Affirmative Action and it's ubiquitous tentacles, and the overall lack of personal responsibility platform that embodies if not defines the democratic party is all I ever need to know. The destruction of the family unit as direct result of Johnson's 'Great Society". Generational welfare and the crimes associated with the idle time it grants. The democratic party has ruin so many lives, I can't even believe they exist. My father always said, "it's not who you vote for, but who you vote against" that matters. I consider myself more of a libertarian, but typically vote republican. You can come at me about all the ills of the republican party but it won't phase me. BECAUSE of this idiotic fact. The mother of a household was told that if the father of her children resided in the same house, she wouldn't get her welfare check. So, many women, had multiple children, from multple "baby's daddies." The "fathers" go house to house shacking up with multiple woman collecting on favors, almost dividends from the money she receives from the gov. for sireing her children. Crack-mothers, crac-babies, drug addicts, drug pushers, gang members, philandering fathers, STD's, HIV and overall shitty parenting. Anyone who thinks this is, or was a good plan is someone I don't want to vote the same as. I love my fellow man and have no designs on voting for someone of this "entitlement mentality." If I hated someone with all of my heart I wouldn't do to them what the dems did to them after securing their vote.
Awesome well written blog! I'm glad to see someone using their brain, since both sides of politics have turned most people's grey matter into oatmeal. I'm a firm believer that both parties need to go. EVERYONE OUT! We are the people, we make the decisions. Every politician in office needs to be fired and we start fresh.
@radicalramblings - dual standards are dual standards Wendi and very transparent. It bothers me more when those who profess faith do so unless you hold your own to a higher standard-that is those who make claims then fudge on them once they got your vote. When a liberal votes liberal they havent lied about what their intent was.
@huuddathoughtit - if the representatives refuse to impose term limits the ballot box is where they will be imposed.
@nudged - I understand where you are coming from . I also know dems that were raised with the evil heartless republican big business who is ruining the country model and would not vote for a republican if they were the only ones on the ticket. My wifes bosses wife refuses to vote for a republican even though the democratic legislation hurts her husbands business. It is a moral issue to her. She really believes republicans are the personification of evil. I wouldnt classify her as a wild eyed liberal, just a blue collar democrat.
The political science model always had it that no matter who the candidate was nationally they would get 40% of the vote in a two person dem/repub race. That left 20 % swing. We used to use if they were sane and viable the swing is somewhere around 12%. Now I think the model may be as high as 25%. What has been ingrained in people is tough to erase .
I can only provoke people to think or just provoke them, I can't erase tapes. However, I see where the republicans (and I am speaking about conservatives and republicans because this is a conservative blog, so who I am concerned with holding to account) while in power abused the confidence of the people who were not holding them to account and allowed them to be fiscally liberal and at times even undercut conservatives for the "good of the party".
I do not condemn people for holding to what they feel most comfortable with. When I voted against Rick Santorum I voted for the third party candidate because I would not condone what santorum did to Pat Toomey in 2004 and there had to be ramifications. To me, and this is speaking to my tapes, if I refuse to hold my own to account I do not feel I should be holding the other side to a different standard, especially if they are doing what they said they were going to do in their campaign.
@mejicojohn - I watched it John
@PreciousOnyx - I think more people are where "you are at" now than in a very long time. To use an analogy, How many times do you get beat before you dont believe the guy is a abuser? How many times do you have to be lied to before you realize he can not be trusted?
where you are at though is a very good place to be. our founders were ones to distrust the government and thought it to be healthy. today it is considered subversive.
@mrcolorful - education is indoctrination and we have indoctrinated children to believe that government is the end all and to be trusted. The exact opposite premise we were found on.
@Paul_Partisan - I believe I recall seeing you pointing out something that someone on the left did you didnt agree with.
hahaha,, wasnt refering to you.. not many people post a video without watching them first,,, i wouldnt think...
@ProvokingThought - That is certainly true. When you blindly trust a person or entity you generally don't evaluate their actions too much.
@mejicojohn - I thought that would get a laugh John !
@mrcolorful - it is also true of people who get involved in religious movement who are shunned if they question something about faith. The conservative movement got derailed but people didnt ask why the train was not on the rails since the engineers were their stripe.
@ProvokingThought - Very true...
@mrcolorful - which part rang truer?
I take everything I hear on Fox with a grain of salt but make me feel less like puking than the other networks - and I can only take so much of Fox too. I agree that a lot of "conservatives" nowadays are just socialists banging a drum on the other side of the aisle. The Republicans need to pay attention to the 06 and 08 elections - they've lost their base because they've betrayed their base's values. If they don't show that they'll stand for what we believe in they're going to lose our votes - and many have jumped ship. It seems like the Dems aren't paying attention either - they're moving further and further left when the country has and probably will continue to lean to the right.
@JJ_Ames - I have a hard time taking the shrill of talking heads.everything being framed in hyperbole. I still say one of the most intelligent tv discussions is in the mornings on msnbc- joe and mika- where a lot of different views are discussed without screaming. The one who cured me from fox was hannity and colmes. If they cant talk rationally I dont really want to hear it. my luck the shows arent even on anymore..well if not, a point of reference
@ProvokingThought - The first part.
@ProvokingThought - I am a firm believer in local politics/government. Everyone should do what is best based on their knowledge of their area and it's needs. I will never disagree with that. But when it comes to a platform, not a mission statement, but a basic platform, I can not and will never forget the notion of selling out poor people for their vote (which of course happens on both sides to DIFFERENT degrees). Only the devil, or those controlled by him, could feel that telling the mother that the government will assist her financially because the father is not in the home. Knowing full well that some will crave/need the assistance enough that they are willing to tell the "Baby's Daddy" to leave. Unconsciencable(spelling?) Family unit statistics have gone as high as 85% for unwed mothers in certain communities. Communities that had statistics of the near opposite of 15% unwed mothers before "the great society." I am not arguing with you as you have said you fully understand my position. I just felt the need to reinforce my position. I don't like seeing vulnerable people used as tools for the likes of Jesse Jackson and his ilk.
@nudged - abusing peoples trust in a organization is wrong and as you note, both parties do it.. I think they poor have wrongly viewed that the democrats are looking our for them .I was up in Johnsonburg last night, a heavy union democrat town to hear from our US Rep and State Rep and there is a twon where people are convinced the democrats have their interest at heart, yet in the healthcare bill they had a provision against black liquor, a by product of paper production At Domtar they rely on the alternative energy credit that black liquor provides. It is in the healthcare bill the union supports. The party and the union turn the supporter/faithful into useful idiots. Of course like in other regime, we aso know that the most expendable and the first to go are the useful idiots.
Of course I agree with your social abuse argument. It is also the same type of manipulation that gets people to terminate their own believng it is their right and choice. I wonder if we could ever get a reliable fiscal impact study on the economic impact abortion has had on our culture. There are certain unknown quantiies-you can not figure if another bill gates, alexander graham bell, einstein, etc would have been born and created a ground breaking invention, but you can figure the impact on social security, work force, etc.
The point I was making you had political mores programmed into you like most people did. The belief that the democrats have about their cause being righteous is every bit s strong as your is. I was taught not to trust political parties but look at people. I remember my parents watching Walter C and never hear them talking about Johnson, especially when Tom when was in Viet Nam and we had a 6 x 4 south east asian map taped on our wall listening fro reports about the 1st Cav 7th division. I will never forget how sick my dad was when Tet broke and we knew Tom was up in Hue City. I remember their distrust of Richard Nixon as well as them not being able to believe that George Wallace was actually a serious candidate for President, yet a sitting governor.
There is also a false assumption that when you do not trust party a, that you in turn do support party b. The only way you support one party over another generally is that you accept or reject the presuppositions of a party that you would be most inclined to vote for or against . Obviously conservative presuppositions lead you to lean more to republican candidates in shared presuppositions. My position is that is dangerous to accpet the presupposition that the party candidates actually support the party platform or ideals and not to trust the fact that just because they are a R or a D that they in fact support those presuppositions. There has been intentional infiltration of both parties under the big tent party philosophy by opposition parties to change the philosophical make up of the party.
