personal url advantages
I was glad to see that xanga has offered the personal url option to it's subscribers. First, it opens up new potential sources of revenue for Xanga, something I imagine is a ongoing issue for a blogging website.
Second, it is always preferable to have a web address that is a stand alone address, whether the blog is stand alone or not.
Third, I imagine this may be a gateway to increase the number of premium subscribers. Perhaps if url/premium packages were combined at a discounted package purchase. Or buy life and get a x % discounts for the number of years url you buy today.
Fourth, consider that your own url normally requires /blog or /wordpress where the xanga blog is just a direct (mask?) url. They also have it set up that your old address still is functional. My new address is http://provokingthought.net

It is a grand idea for those want their own destination url. Yours is looking wonderful
It is a great idea. Kudos to the Xanga Team for pulling it out. Obviously it isn't for everyone but it is great for some people.
i looked at it,,, and clicked around for the possibilities,,,
my name on .com of course is unavailable,, because i own it,,, and i had a web hosting account with my name too,,, i had at one time about 15 urls,,, but that gets old since i never bothered going to any of them,,, just saving them for a rainy day i guess,,, that never came around,,,,,,
that prompted me to check,, everything has expired,,, because i changed my address and never bothered to change my credit info address. i have a couple of domains still,, none under mejicojohn,,, but i cant touch them because they are mine even tho they are not,,, i guess i could update my info and reinstate them,,,
the mejicojohn one,, i hung onto for a long time,, i kept trying to figure out how i could put up a little more lengthy and entertaining videos than you tube has room for... never could get any of my test posts to work tho...
then theres the copyright issue,,, hahahahaha,,, i dont know who owns what,, and some allow,,, and some dont,,, i dont need that kind of legal hassle,,, youtube corrects copyright violations,,, which in a way is good... i can always change that with another try...
with masked forwarding,, you can turn xanga into your url... kinda... ive done that with more than one of my xanga sites... again,,, those domains have all expired... i have too many email addresses to keep up with already,, a couple of them i try to log onto every couple of months to keep them active,, i usually fail,, but they are easy to restart... i dont read any mails from them anyway,,, hahahahahaha,,, a couple of my facebook accounts become disabled when their emails get returned,,, so i have to go back and enable the email address..
i dont know that a domain name would increase a readership...
i found www.mejicojohn.com (and im feeling lucky) brought me straight to my xanga every time anyway... im not sure i ever forwarded the name to here,,, i may have,, because i had my web hosting site so messed up,,, hahahaha
if i went xangas route,, i could,,, no,,, i cant cancel it,, because its not active,, i could pay it and reinstate it,,, then pay xanga a second fee... or i could forward it,,, (theres two forwards) (a regular forward that would say i was on xanga/mejicojohn and the masked one,,, which says mejicojohn.com,,, both are free)
mostly i think i just burnt myself out on the whole mess... and the email address,,, hahahahahaha,,, i sure dont need.
its good to know tho,,, a lot easier than trying to build a real website...
i still want to make a game tho,,, if i can ever figure out how,,, ill probably not do that on xanga tho,,, dont think its possible,,, if it was,, now that would be awesome...
oh,, hahaha,, i just checked,,, www.doggowater.com is mine,, and active...
a brilliant business venture i thought of at the exact moment our glorious drug wars erupted... well,, a couple of days before...
bottled mexican tap water with a colorful lable... (you know your not supposed to drink the water)... (a curio)
the tourist traffic came to a screeching halt right after i bought the domain,,, that was about the time of 9/11 too,,, a double whammy... am i the lucky one or what???
i could forward that one to xanga,,, and i might,,, its showing to be under construction right now,,, im kinda slow aint i,,, what,,, 6?? 7?? years,,, and still under construction... hahahaha
well,, i went ahead and forwarded it,,, i was gonna just post a pic there,, but apparently the pic option has been disabled for the free starter page,,,
coming back to your site to boast of my accomplishment,,, the same warning flashed up on my screen while leaving my page that has a couple of times coming to yours,,, the name doggowater replaced your name on the warning,,,.
thats strange,,, warning me about a site once im leaving it,,, hahahahaha
stuff like that could shoo traffic away rather than attract it.

I also own a web hosting company and I only own (on record)seven domains. I just got rid of two this past week that were my personal sites, the first being my original xanga name.org
while everyone knows who I am, the "handle" sticks. While I was talking to a show host last week I introudced myself as Provoking Thought and wen we were talking about facebook and personal and blog accounts she mentioned it was good to keep the blog persona as its own entity. The anti-federalists did the same thing
@AnamcharaConcepts - thanks. It felt wierd to buy a url from xanga since I own my own hosting company, but I do try to support these guys where I can.
@mrcolorful - it serves a purpose for me, I am glad they made the option available.
