  • Making stuff up

I was really surprised yesterday to read the comments section in the Washington Post yesterday by all the people who said they were there and it was all of a bunch of old people there who were on the public dole. What?

I am glad that partisans are starting to be honest and say they view social security forced retirement contributions being paid out to those who contributed as being on the public dole. The one nice things about taking a lot of random pictures is you have a record of the rally.(because you were actuallythere),

I found just the opposite to be true. I thought more older people should have been there , yet was surprised at the number of young people . The public is getting hip to the slant because what people who were not there do not realize is that the most common thing that people are carrying is video and camera equipment , not signs.

@mejicojohn - yes, I was surprised that they would say it is all old people when almost everyone had a camera and was taking pictures John.

I was even more surprised at the democrats making remarks about the seniors being on the public teat.

It goes hand in hand with Pelosi saying she can ignore the protestors because AARP and  the AMA support the bill.

I got what you meant--it is not feigned shock !

  • pb49r

AARP does NOT speak for me.  I think our side is made up of a lot of deep thinking individuals from all ages, and we must prevail.

  • Paul_Partisan

Tacky journalism. Though it has been kind of true where liberals or dems were younger than conservatives/repubs.

  • ProvokingThought

@Paul_Partisan - where the irony comes in Paul is that it was always the r's or c's being tagged as anti-old folks, but were all for robbing the trust fund (both sides did it when in power-so it was equal opportunity theft) The dems painting ss as a welfare program caught me way off guard.

  • ProvokingThought

@pb49r - aarp is being soundly rejected. They made a congressional deal with their supplemental insurance that would give them a advantage over the other carriers and it is quid pro quo support.

  • Paul_Partisan

@ProvokingThought - Yeah, that's what I thought was most tacky. I mean, FDR is the Democrat's crown jewel.

Maybe the positive out of all of this will be that 3rd parties will be able to grow bigger, and actually become viable in future elections.

  • ProvokingThought

@Paul_Partisan - I think if there is going to be progress it has to happen. We see in the dnc the war against the moderates, we see in the rnc the war between fiscal and social conservatives and then even the division between liberal and progressive, hawk v dove, protectionist vs. free trade . The two parties really dont cover the span of options and choices.

I like coalition governments. It should be hard to write a bill that affects everyone . It should be hard to go to war. People have to form alliances and work together in a coalition.

I have always had a very democrat position on social security in that it was a forced retirement program representing over 10% of your pay. The money needs to be there for the people, period. No cuts, you took their money, now give it back and quit f-ing with the cost of living so you can screw them. It was taken at gunpoint, now give it back.

@ProvokingThought - I find the whole process of democracy in the U.S. to be somewhat a fraudulent one. In the regards that I was forced to choose between McCain or Obama, while my hand was wavering on Ralph Nader, as I am sure some people on the opposite side voted for McCain while wanting to mark Ron Paul. It comes down to money, and the Democratic Party and GOP as being the only two real choices, because they can accrue enough campaign finances, where the 'little' guys can't. Who was the only one presidential candidate who could run as his own party and keep up with others to a certain point? Ross Perot. I feel as if I am being cheated out of choices the way elections are held.

I also have been criticized for saying this on my blog, or forums in the past. I actually find a Parliament to be a more desirable thing than our Congress, like the British one. Because they have a whole slough of different politicians from a greater number of parties. The majority Parties can not just ram home the goals they want, like our congresses can.

@Paul_Partisan - the programming of people to respond to a label has gone past the border of pathetic Paul. It is unnerving and also dangerous to our way of life because as long as something is tagged x they do not discern. That is worse than being in Jim Jones cult.

I have spent the last two weeks observing, reading and not saying as much as usual and in fact, it is freaking depressing how much of lemmings people are.

The independant movement is gaining steam . did you see the arrests at Liebermanns office? Or the guy who grabbed a blue dogs arm? counter -productive.

I used to love watching Parliament fight.

  • TheSunnyC

Thanks for going and thanks for the video.....Haven't heard yet how the vote went today.

  • ProvokingThought

@TheSunnyC - the NY Post said they were not having it today, but I am not sure.. If the congress is in session I guess cspan would have it on.

  • Paul_Partisan

@ProvokingThought - I actually read neither of those stories. I found some stories where Conservatives and Republicans seem to be heading in different directions, where in the future there might be something like a 'Conservative Party' and the GOP. That might actually be damaging at first, providing the Democratic Party an easier task of reaching across party lines in Congress to moderate Republicans. But in the long run, if that does indeed happen, it might inspire liberals to break off from the Democratic Party, and form another party, or parties. In essence bringing about changes I really think ought to happen in our country. I believe we deserve to be given the opportunity to not choose between the lesser-of-two-evils, as sometimes people call elections, and have broader choices.

I think our politcal system is a system of homogeny presently.

  • ProvokingThought

@TheSunnyC - it is on cspan now. the dems are trying to push it through at a time of high unemployment

  • ProvokingThought

@Paul_Partisan - The republican and conservative divide began in earnest during the 2004 election Paul . Many became convinced that Republicans only sought big government solutions and were more concerned about party and winning than the principles of the party. Morevover, they were even less concerned about the people they represent. (in other words, two parties, one scam)

Many fiscal conservatives went independent or refuse to support the "ticket" but would be more inclined to vote for a conservative democrat than a republican who supports party over all else. Rick Santorum in PA was a example of conservatives turning on republicans.

I am not afraid of the democrats being a big tent because the big tent has turned on its moderates. It is all a sham. Instead I have supported people who became democrats to dilute the tent as people did to the republican party as well. Both sides now see the effect and so do the people.

I can tell you most of the people you see saying we have had enough are not republicans. They are people who have had enough of the two party sham Paul.

Well, most were older than 7. Older people.

Wow, reading the comments here gives me hope for America.  Here I was wondering why no one questions things anymore, and feeling so alone for my problems with BOTH the administrations of Bush (and the failed Republican policies there) and Obama (and the massive overhaul of our country that they are pushing through).  I was so sad to see that the House ignored the cries of the people of this country and pushed this bill through anyway.  Why in the world should we trust these people with healthcare???  Anyway-thanks for giving me some faith.
