What are our leaders doing ?
In the midst of a war on two fronts and two rogue states giving us the nuclear middle finger, Obama is lecturing an ally , Hillary is playing the global warming (politics) game in China and Nancy Pelosi is calling the CIA liars while trying to CHA from potential prosecution being called for by some on both the left and right. How comforting.
Our commander in chief needs to get his eye on the ball and cut out his perpetual campaign and start being President. North Korea has thumbed their nose at us and we respond by getting tough with a UN Sanction. Well that was what America voted for , a pansy, and that is what they got, a weak leader who lectures and threatens with UN Sanctions. Yeah, we saw how well that worked with another dictator.
It is about time that he quit trying to do the job of the Supreme Court and critiquing the founders errors in crafting the Constitution, and actually perform his own job of upholding and defending the Constitution of the United States which he swore he would do. Twice. It seems like he wants to do everybody's job but his own.
At a time when Kim has tested his nukes for the world to see and then threatened us if we try to check his outgoing shipments out, it is high time to concentrate on areas like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria and Iran. Thank God the government of Pakistan sees the urgency.
Pakistan
The Taliban has taken to trying to strike terror into the Pakistan government and people by launching strikes in retaliation for the army vowing to weed them out. But instead of striking fear in their heart it has strengthened their resolve to destroy the Taliban who took a settlement less than 100 miles from the capital. The geopolitical situation in Pakistan should be of concern to Obama because of the suspicion that Taliban or other entities (perhaps rogue military) may try to seize nuclear weapons of the state. Add the North Korean marketing display that their nukes work and the reality of a attack inside Pakistan to destabilize the state is a reality.
Pakistan understands what is at stake here, and aren't dispatching their negotiators to have tea and prayers.
Dawn reports, "
This month, the military launched a full-scale offensive to root out the Taliban from their stronghold in nearby Swat.
But the militants have responded with eight bomb attacks in towns and cities since late April, three on Thursday in the northwest, a day after 26 people were killed in a suicide gun and bomb attack in Lahore.
The militants are trying to undermine the state's determination to fight them, and the broad public support the army's campaign enjoys, analysts told Reuters on Friday.
‘This is exactly what the militants are trying to do because they have done it successfully in the past. But things have changed substantially,’ security analyst Ikram Sehgal said"
Frankly, the Taliban have been have been playing a card from a previous era that worked until recently. See Pakistan was complicit with the United States with the mujadeen fighting the former Soviet Union in Afghanistan. Remember , this was when Osama bin Laden was a CIA asset. Of course, the Taliban took over in Afghanistan as a result of the covert war . The alliances between the CIA , Mujadeen and Pakistan were all ones of self interest for all parties.
Post 9/11 there has been awkward situations for the Pakistani government because of those aliances. Pakistan had supported the Talibans Afghan government and their involvement in Kashmir. Understandably their was a mutual mistrust between us and them and the Taliban played the conflict of interest and betrayal card to the max.
But as Dawn reports,
"The Taliban in Pakistan overplayed their hand when, under cover of a controversial peace pact, they denounced the constitution and pushed out of the former tourist valley of Swat towards the capital.
‘The Taliban attempt to make their presence felt in an area that a large number of Pakistanis are familiar with, and the way they went about it, the brutality, exposed them and changed opinion,’ said Samina Ahmed of the International Crisis Group think-tank.
‘They are no longer considered alienated, disaffected Pakistanis who need to be brought into the fold. They're looked upon much more as criminals who should be brought to justice.’
"The violence the militants have unleashed demonstrated the extent of the threat they posed and is steeling opposition, Ahmed said.
‘It strengthens the government's position that the terrorists pose a major threat ... It's no longer a remote conflict being fought in FATA,’ she said, referring to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas."
It appears he understands the rationale of the Taliban when he concludes,
"Wavering at this stage would dash the hopes of the public and be disastrous, he said"
Hey Barack, how about taking a hat tip from a Muslim State? Notice they aren't going to the UN for any sanctions, they aren't look for peace talks, they are going to root the Taliban out and kill them. What is their conclusion Barack?
Pakistan sees no option to back down, in fact, according to Reuters- "‘If they stop the operation now then prepare yourself for a Taliban state.’
Barack, there is a time for talk and there is a time to act. The UN is on line one for you.

Pakistani Taliban claim to be moving in
Times of terror: Blast hits Peshawar
Update: North Korea is really scared now we are seeking sanctions. Good job leaders!
North Korea Test-Fires Short-Range Missile
North Korea rattled its neighbors again Friday when it fired a short-range missile off its east coast, the sixth such firing since the secretive country conducted an underground nuclear test on Monday, and a large number of Chinese fishing boats left the disputed water off the western coast of the Korean Peninsula in the past several days, according to reports from South Korea.
"Mr. President, have you grown a set of cojones yet, or are you still trying to play by some strange set of rules YOU want to play by? You are no longer campaigning; the world doesn’t play by the same set of civil rules the Republican’s play by. The world court plays for keeps, and you sir are bringing a knife to a gun fight. They aren’t taken by your charm, they could care less about charm, and they want to killllllllllllllllllllllllll us! Earth to Obama, if you want to play strong arm law, this IS the time to do it, and not against the American citizens. Your main job sir in case you forgot is to protect us……..us as in the American people, and not just your blessed democrats. This is what “respect” has gotten us"Maybe someone will explain the difference in between liking us, jealously and respect to Barack.

he will never quit campaigning...he doesn't give a flip for actually doing something constructive, he works tirelessly on his personal agenda...pelosi has been run aground, i think they told her to shut her pie hole and hope her mess blows over...clinton plays "wwagd"..big surprise...
@tialoca_talks - at least Obama will be out of country next week. See how his brothers in Egypt receive him. btw, I added some links to this post.
Ooo... our leaders busy doing the joker job because they're clowns in training.
Obama cares more about looking good than in doing the right thing by the United States.
oh our war is still going on.
Obviously, Obama & Co never dealt with bullies in their sheltered private school lives. If they had then they would know that talking to bullies does about as much good as talking to a mama bear thats trying to protect her cubs.
I am convinced that if Obama continues to do nothing...we are likely heading towards something like another world war. He doesn't understand that these people will not just go away if he ignores them. No, that only emboldens them. Heck, if the Taliban get a hold of nuclear weapons, then what is Barry going to do? Talk to them? They're terrorists! They don't care what we have to say. It's not like we're dealing with a country. Even if we were, things aren't going so well with North Korea either. I don't think Obama as what it takes to rise to the challenge. And because he lacks the balls, it will be to the detriment of us all.
All while few even notice. And as you stated one of those seeming to not know what is going on, is our fearless leader
@trunthepaige - Paige this is most likely one of the best irl examples of why NOT to watch cable news or listen to popular talk radio , they keep you distracted. BTW, I didnt forget about your answer. I will most likely turn the answer into a post, it would be much longer than his post.
@firetyger - well all the world dictators are in flex mode now that our affirmative action leader will give them a seat at the table. Does he realize Iran chumped him? He just wants to ignore North Korea? He is the embodiement of the peter principle.
@mrcolorful - idk about that. He was a community organizer and he did "do" alice palmer. He remained one step removed.
I think it is more likely he isnt used to ppl not understanding who he perceives himself to be . He doesnt walk as the leader of the US, that is what they respect. He carries himself as some world problem solver and they view him as more delusional and potentially more dangerous than George Bush.( More dangerous because he doesnt understand how to use power.)
@SilentSeekr - oh those kodak moments make great campaign propoganda don't they?
@RestlessButterfly - that is a very kind way to frame it. There was a song that used to go, "here comes the jester , one two three, its all part of my fantasy " http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XW15O-JXs5E. It may be all part of his fantasy, part of his dream, idk...
@embrown88 - two of them
@ProvokingThought - oh and the other which i forgot.
@embrown88 - easy thing to do
@ProvokingThought - i know
@ProvokingThought - I guess that could be the case. He did surround himself with a lot of people who either had similar worldviews and self-opinions or reaffirmed his self-opinion so it makes sense that he wouldn't be used to differing opinions.
ears is doing a fine job,, leave him alone,,, its hard to slap the mule up side the head with the 2x4 as long as the mule is watching you,,, and trust me,, this mule needs to be slapped hard with the 2x4
disclaimer,,, i aint calling ears a mule.... hes the distraction that will allow the mule to get slapped....
I think that in reality, there are very few options in either Pakistan or with Lil Kim. My view is similar to what George Freeman of Stratfor outlined a few weeks ago (Stratfor is an intelligence service; the CIA buys some of his forecasts). Think of it all like a chess game. To an inexperienced player, there appears to be dozens of possible moves. But, to a grand master, they see only a few that will not lead to catastrophe. To me, both of these countries leave very little options.
Pakistan is a very misunderstood place...It must be conveyed, to any foreign policy regarding them and Afghanistan, that a large portion of the population is ethnically tied to Afghanistan. They view the border as arbitrary (most of the middle east works this way. The brits drew them up about 50 years ago, so no one cares) and feel that any assualt on Afghanistan is one on their own people. It is because of these people that Zardari (or Bhutto, Musharaf, or anyone else) cannot appear to be too gung-ho in attacking the Taliban or supporting the US.
Also, as most of you likely know, (People on this site are typically pretty knowledgeable) the Pakistani military and especially the intel service are flooded with people sympathetic to the Taliban. We cannot invade, and will not get much support if we attack them over the border. SO...what is the play? What can OB do? From what I can tell, he's carried over the Bush policy....which was innane and idealistic.
Here is what we should do, in both countries. You simply write out what you want to get accomplished, and by what time. You then write out the consequences if it is not met...You give them 90 days to root out the northern tribal areas and push out the Taliban. They are using our tax money to fight them anyway...Then, when they fail (which they clearly would) you send in US special forces (I was a PJ for 4 years) and let them go to town.
"Most mistakes that are made are actually the same mistake repeated. You cannot treat a good person like a monster, and you cannot treat a monster like a good person." W Churchill
Now, which do you think we're dealing with in Pakistan?
We will never take the danger as a # 1 priority until he gets off the social enginering kick along with congress and the courts. They do not belive we are truly at war that will continue till Jesus returns. I never could understand the fight club mentality of some of our leaders or the I'm too important to do my Job but keep me in office is the name of my game lifestyle. Being drunk on power can be seen of them each day as our rights are taken away and crumbs from the our daily bread that we are forced to give to them in taxes that funds things most of us do not want . I like the question you used "What are our leaders doing ?" For many anything they can get away with to meet their desires and not our needs.
Barry
Great post John....Leaders lead, they don't blame. It may have helped his cause getting to where he is but the blame game does little now to solve the worlds problems..and i guess he has not figured it out yet his hands are on the steering wheel now..it is time to man up Mr. president!!!
@OptStudent - I like your analogy to the chess player. I am waiting on a call from a client so will reply until then and finish up later if needed.
I think I would rather use the illustration of a car. We all know a car when we see it. Most of us know that it takes fuel to for the car to be operable, and from that point on you start losing people. Actually to succesfully operate a car without blowing it up is easy with common sense. We can even diagnois some problems for experience. But understanding the whys and hows and the interrelationships is necessary to properly design it and maintain and have a lasting solution to a systemic problem.
Knowing I may have to cut out, I am going to take this kind of round robin. One of my greatest confusions about this reason was why post-9/11 when the Indian army offered the assistance (I think their special forces) why we chumped them. I couldn't find good information in ours that wasn't extremely political and I came across Dawn.com.I almost got the feeling that we were strong arming a family member to fight another;especially in a you are either with us or against us atmosphere and then the factoring of a forced family feud by external pressure.
Pakistan didnt want us declaring war on them seeing them as aiding and abetting the enemy, and also knowing that the liklihood would then be a US and India vs. Pakistan (Again, I am going off what I took from what I gathered)
I always took away a sense of mutual distrust to have the others best interest at heart so the closest we could come was really make sure we had aligned interest which would be achieved by the same methods, even if for different reasons.
I am not sure we grasped the ramifications of the alliance, pitting brother vs. brother , and islam against the white devil> I would almost imagine one would need to be playing the white devil for a fool generally to be safe< I always saw a lack of passion for a driver in the equation and that does not make for great expecations that there would be any zeal in weeding out the taliban. This alliance also keeps the Indians in check to some extent as well.
I believe there has been a crossed the line on both parts. Almost like the taliban saying you traitor pricks, you are siding against us? You have to die. And the Pakistanis knowing that to end it they will have to almost commit a religious/political genocide> Perhaps genocide is the wrong term, but wipe them out is where I am going, because the war will not be over for betrayal with the white devil.
I would not be surprised if we were involved in pushing this to a head because I believe you are correct in that they can do some things we can not. I would give them the supplies they need and let them go at it in good old fashioned tribal warfare. This will have to run its course. Be back later. John
@OptStudent - (cont.) I would also think at some point our relationship with Pakistan would become problematic to them with other Islamic nations, leaving them in hostilities in both the Islamic world and with India. i.e. Would a islamic country would cooperate with the Taliban and have them get Pakistans nukes from "a brother in name only who has betrayed Islam?
I think if I were going for solutions first I go external to Pakistan. Whenefver we deal with islamic culture we send signals that many time we do not weight properly if we even consider them. If we stepped back from this and view the historicial relationships between the British and Pakistan and the US and Pakistan, the US could be a greater friend because we were never viewed as a occupier looking to expand through imperialism, unlike the British Empire. We forgot that and created problems for ourselves, I would correct that. How? The next couple things will bring controversy
1. We established permanent bases on Islamic soil. Since Iraq is now a sovereign country, I would NOW turn those bases over to Iraq, with agreement we could use the bases . http://www.fcnl.org/iraq/bases.htm
2.The detainees at Gitmo would go to iraq for their disposition of the cases under their jurisdiction.
Now, we know there was recent changes in both the Pakistani government and military. We also know of Pakistani tribalism. So when it all goes to hell in a handbasket, who has the final say? Does the civilian government have to appease the military. Bottom line and this may sound cold, we have to maintain stability so the nuclear weapons caches remain secure. So who do we trust? Does it have to be the US to secure it and then turn it over? I would think it would have to be the one who has stabilized their power for the longest period. I am not inclined that we would want a dictator or a military junta taking over.
I would prioritize and have them taking out the Taliban while I was securing the weapons and give them every resource to stabilize their government. I cant see us setting up a strong man dictator in the region, especially after OBL in the terms of a asset went bad
@str8tguy69 - most vie at being ready to serve on day one, he has vied to be ready to campaign from day one, no?
@Barrygw - I see a lot of his mom shining through in him. I am pretty sure she was a anthropologist (if not a archeologist) They take a really detached view of life, everything is almost in the third person and the current is almost surreal in relation to the past.
>defending the Constitution of the United States which he swore he would do. Twice.
LOL! Thanks for injecting a note of humor into this gloomy subject!
I think the knife that Obama is bringing to the gunfight is a rubber prop of a knife, though to be fair to him he might also have a couple of plastic green army men with their guns and bazookas sitting in his pocket.
@homefire - and I thought that went unnoticed.
@mrcolorful - we know he likes hip-hop so maybe they are packing heat for him
